Lower back pain makes us feel miserable and like not doing too much. They often say on energetic level it can be the lack of support we are experiencing or feeling of dealing with everything alone in life.
What is it we can do with this discomfort? What would actually make a lasting difference to way we feel? Do you feel comfortable to ask for help?
Water skying in Corfu 6 years ago I managed to fall down in full speed hitting water with my bum and my lower back didn’t like it at all. In fact, I need to pay attention and look after it much more ever since.
You don’t need to have an injury. Discomfort of our lower back is often just a result of our life style. Either way, my advice is be gentle with yourself and move! Our back doesn’t like being in the same position for extended period of time.
Lower back pain can be caused by a variety of problems with any parts of the complex, interconnected network of spinal muscles, nerves, bones, discs or tendons in the lumbar spine. Typical sources of low back pain include:
- The large nerve roots in the low back that go to the legs may be irritated
- The smaller nerves that supply the low back may be irritated
- The large paired lower back muscles (erector spinae) may be strained
- The bones, ligaments or joints may be damaged
- An intervertebral disc may be degenerating
Stiffness and tension is also closely connected with our state of mind and so simple stretches may not make that much of a lasting difference. Yoga engages your full mind. It is a conscious practice where we utilise the powerfully healing effects of breath combined with motion.
Here is a gentle yoga video with poses you can experience in the comfort of your home:
Regular practice can make all the difference in your life and life of those around you.
