It’s funny how in life things you meant to do or experience seem to find you and they keep on coming back…
Back in 2014, during the retreat in Prague, I had a hip injury that caused me stop teaching for almost a year. I couldn’t walk properly for 8 months and pain was so great that I started to losing hope I will ever practice yoga, never mind teaching it again, but eventually I started healing and recovering slowly.
Around this time, I had my friend calling me she wanted me to give her a private lesson. I explained I haven’t been teaching or practicing for a while and recommended few good teachers in the area. She declined and said very directly: ‘Lucia, I want you to be my teacher!” Back in India they used to tell us our students find us and I found it a great privilege every time this happened and so I said yes.
I was teaching in her little studio, just her and her friend with her little son wondering around, but surprisingly not disturbing at all. He merged with us in the beautiful vibe of very special atmosphere we co-created together. In one moment towards the end, I saw him sitting to his mum coming for a cuddle – I felt it was a very peaceful, special moment for them both.
After the class, my friend told me what actually happened. She said her son is suffering from severe epilepsy attacks that always occur unexpectedly and need urgent medical attention. She said during our class he experienced another one, but this time, miraculously, it went away and they managed without help. She called it a miracle!
Walking home towards the train station, I had a chance to process whole experience on a deeper level and felt an absolute privilege to be the part of it all… At the same time, I heard it as a calling to continue teaching and spreading this gift further. My hip got much better very soon after and for several years after, I was leading very successful yoga and meditation classes and workshops in London and abroad.
This experience taught me to listen and allow myself to follow my internal callings as I believe once we tune in with ourselves, we all have them and its then eventually much easier to follow through then fighting them back due to reasons that are valid only in our own minds…
What do you feel is your calling in life?
