How To Feel Like Your Authentic Self In Social Situations

by Lucia Hoxhain English, Life Style Coaching
Did you ever notice that young children seem to get it right and better than any of us adults do when it comes to being their true authentic self?

They sing, laugh, dance & live with an abundance of energy and no worries of whether anyone else is watching or of what anyone thinks of them.

It really doesn’t matter what others think about you.

As adults, we are more on guard than children are in social situations because conversations with others can lead us to feel assorted emotions with many shades of gray in between.  Since we have a desire (especially women) to bond and be accepted by other people, we self-consciously watch what we say, how we say it and decide whether to be agreeable or complacent.  We also subconsciously study the other person’s body language to judge the authenticity of the person and of how the conversation is making us feel at that particular moment.

There are certain types of people with a stronger personality, who tend to make others feel inferior by emanating more of an intense negative vibe.  It is the friction between their ego and yours if you chose the way to fight it.  Also, it is an opportunity for them to be your greatest teachers!

The truly serving way is to look at what is this person mirroring to you – what part of you that you don’t like and maybe not aware of, or the one you still didn’t learn to welcome and embrace as an integral part of who you also are.

Remember…It is never them, its always up to you.  Nobody can make you feel anything.  Every person can serve you as a valuable point of reflection and information that you can take on and process if you chose to do so.

How can you approach this?

You always have a choice of whether or not to take on the belief of what others think of you.

What others think about you is simply a theory and opinion…not a fact!   It is up to you to make a choice to dismiss it and to not let it have impact on you and how you think about yourself.

Remember who you are, your value, what you represent is entirely your choice.

Be kind and compassionate with yourself.  Practice this little art being kind and loving with yourself daily just like you would with your own babies.  Open yourself to discovering something new and fresh and chose to be a designer of your own life.
